4 hand-colored pochoirs

A striking 1930 monograph on Pablo Picasso, issued as part of the legendary XXe Siècle series, featuring four exquisite pochoir plates—a rare and sought-after feature that distinguishes the deluxe copies of this edition.

Printed in Paris under the direction of G. di San Lazzaro, this volume captures Picasso's radical early work in Cubism, Classicism, and the transition into Surrealist-inflected figuration. The pochoirs, rendered in rich, saturated color via the meticulous hand-stenciling technique, reproduce Picasso’s drawings and gouaches with exceptional fidelity. Each plate is tipped-in on heavy stock.

This French edition is limited to 550 numbered copies, of which only a small portion retained all four pochoir plates. The edition was produced under the artistic direction of San Lazzaro, who would go on to found the influential XXe Siècle review, and the approval of Picasso.

Condition:
Very good overall. Pochoirs bright and clean, plates well-preserved. Minor wear to outer chemise and discreet library stamp Provenance to half-title, else clean and unmarked. Original slipcase present and structurally sound. A well-kept example of a fragile and visually stunning publication.

Pochoir Plates Include:

  • A classically inspired female figure in red and ochre

  • A cubist seated man with mandolin

  • Stylized harlequin or theater figure

  • A bold blue and green abstracted portrait

This is a rare survival in complete form—a true collectible for connoisseurs of Picasso, early modernist art, or the history of fine art bookmaking in 20th-century Paris.
