Memoirs of the Life of Anne Boleyn, Queen of Henry VIII
By Miss Benger (Elizabeth Ogilvy Benger)
Printed and Published by Abraham Small, Philadelphia, 1822
First American Edition
Half leather over marbled boards with gilt-stamped spine. 264 pages. Bound in contemporary period style with original boards and spine professionally preserved.
This is the scarce first American edition of Elizabeth Benger’s Memoirs of the Life of Anne Boleyn, originally published in London in 1821. Benger was a respected early 19th-century biographer and poet, and this work represents one of the earliest literary biographies of Anne Boleyn written by a woman.
Condition: Very Good. Binding tight and secure. Wear to leather at corners and spine ends, with some rubbing and light fraying to headcap. Spine gilt remains legible and attractive. Moderate foxing throughout, consistent with age. No writing or markings in text.
Publisher Abraham Small was a notable early 19th-century Philadelphia printer and bookseller, known for publishing the first American edition of Noah Webster's Dictionary in 1828.
A significant and collectible volume, ideal for collectors of early American imprints, Tudor history, or women’s literary history.
