Offered here is an original 1780 copy of A View of the Isle of Wight, in Four Letters to a Friend by John Sturch, printed in Newport and London. This is the second, corrected and enlarged edition, complete with its folding engraved frontispiece map of the Isle of Wight—often missing in copies of this period.
Bound in contemporary speckled paper-covered leather boards with original gilted writing. Some light wear and edge rubbing, small spine cracks as expected for its age, but overall very clean and tightly bound. Light foxing to the title page and prelims; map is clean and folded neatly with no tears.
This charming 18th-century volume explores the natural features, political history, and commercial life of the Isle of Wight in an engaging letter format.
